OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The World Health Organization's Department of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Research (SRH) includes the UNDP-UNFPA-UNICEF-WHO-World Bank Special Programme of Research, Development and Research Training in Human Reproduction (HRP). HRP is the main instrument within the United Nations system for identifying research priorities on sexual and reproductive health and rights; for promoting, conducting, evaluating and coordinating related interdisciplinary research; for collaborating with countries to build national capacity to conduct research; and for promoting the use of research results in policy making and sexual and reproductive health programmes. The Department draws on research and global expertise to set norms and standards and develop global guidelines on sexual and reproductive health and rights. More information about SRH and HRP can be found at https://www.who.int/reproductivehealth/en/The Sexual Health and Reproductive Cancers Unit (SRC) is responsible for research and development, innovation, evidence synthesis, development of guidance and implementation tools, provision of specialized technical support, and dissemination of information on evidence-based practices on sexual health, including sexually transmitted infections, sexual functioning and well-being, sexuality education and counselling, and reproductive cancers.

Description Of Duties

👉To lead the synthesis of evidence, development of indicators, and implementation research activities including grants to donor agencies, relating to the department's work on disease outbreaks. 
👉To develop, jointly with internal and external partners, response plans and implementation strategies at global, regional and country levels for addressing the impact of disease outbreaks on sexual and reproductive health. 
👉To design, manage and implement large-scale research projects on priority areas in disease outbreaks. 
👉To conceive and coordinate the development of evidence-based recommendations on priority actions for responding to disease outbreaks. 
👉To develop evidence synthesis through systematic reviews and assessing the quality of evidence (both quantitative and qualitative), in collaboration with key partners.
👉To represent SRH/HRP externally in the context of the technical work, to position SRH/HRP strategically in international collaboration and high level global health initiatives; 
👉To fundraise for increased financial support for HRP and WHO's work in the area of disease outbreaks. Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

💥Education

Essential: An advanced university degree inmedicine combined with a degree inpublic health. or a closely related field relevant to the position.

Desirable: An additional advanced degree in a research methodology field.

Experience

Essential: A minimum of seven years of experience in clinical, research and programmatic aspects of infectious diseases, new pathogen outbreaks and sexual and reproductive health. Experience in research coordination, preparedness and implementation in low- and middle-income countries. Analytical and reporting experience as evidenced by aconsiderable record of scientific publicationof primary research and systematic reviewsin peer-reviewed journals. Demonstrated exposure at the international level.

Desirable: Track record in research related to disease outbreaks is desirable. Experience in research design, protocol development and training, conducting non-specialist statistical analysis and working with ethical committees.

Skills

Expert knowledge of infectious diseases, sexual and reproductive health and their public health aspects. Demonstrated ability to understand and work in complex research environments, principally when dealing with outbreaks. Strong planning and organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage converging priorities and deliver high-quality products under tight deadlines. Proven expert knowledge in research, research management and guideline development as evidenced by a track record of publications in peer-review scientific journals. Strong communications skills including for public settings. Managerial and team-building skills. Negotiation skills.Knowledge of statistics and quantitative and qualitative research methods.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 74,913 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 5556 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
